We Are A Nation At War

I ran a few errands today, and while sorting my way through the vast wastelands that are the American parking lots, I could not help but notice the signs that we are a nation at war. They are small reminders-- support the troops ribbons, men and women in their service uniforms, "Proud Mother of a US Marine" and "Half My Heart is Overseas" bumper stickers-- but they are all around us.

Which is why I am so disgusted to hear John Edwards call the War on Terror nothing but a slogan (disgusted, not surprised, mind you). Don't worry-- Bush slammed him, calling the view that there is no war on terror "naive"-- but I cannot help but shake my head at what Edwards' quip tells us about the state of the Democratic Party, and the state of the nation that voted them a congressional majority.
